I can't stop talking about running
And I don't plan to zip it any time soon!
The more I run, the more I want to talk about running. I’m secretly hoping people bring it up. Whether they’re asking how to get started, what shoes to buy, how my morning run went, or what I’m training for next. My desire to dive into the details just keeps growing.
In fact, my dad has been on a teasing kick lately about how much time we spend talking about running. And he’s not wrong. (Although, if you ask me, I think he’s just a lil jealous he can’t hit the pavement anymore, sorry Dad!)
When you’re truly passionate about a hobby, it has a way of spilling into every conversation. My hobby happens to come in the form of mileage, Strava kudos, analyzing splits, and a camera roll full of .5 video angles of me running.
I grew up with athletic, health-conscious parents who signed us up for local 5ks and made sure we knew the importance of fitness, and that a little competition never hurt anyone. With this example set early on in my childhood, it’s not the biggest shock that I found myself going down a similar path as my parents.
How does the expression go? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree?
Sounds about right.
And let’s be real, regardless of your upbringing, running is hard to commit to and continue unless you find and understand your own why (which I will say can evolve, but that’s for a longer conversation another time). However, when I uncovered my own why and purpose for hitting the pavement a few years ago, I didn’t expect it to become my all-consuming personality. But somewhere between weekend long runs, filming my pre-run chats, and needing a new outfit for every race, it happened.
Running turned into something more than what I do. It became a lens I see everything through, and one of my greatest joys.
Now, this could go down a much more serious deep dive into all the lessons, healing, revelations, and growth developed while hitting the pavement. And trust me, there are plenty.
But today? It’s not that deep.
I’m writing today to press on the importance of celebrating finding a passion that gives you a greater purpose and a reason to keep learning and evolving.
My miles have rooted me in happiness. I talk about them nonstop because they’ve brought me an unexpected and overwhelming feeling of joy. The kind of euphoria I can’t get enough of. What started as a healing journey is now the best part of my day. I love sharing it with others, being inspired by strangers who share their stories, and nothing beats the runner’s high post-workout.
So honestly, why wouldn’t I want to talk and obsess about it?
I’ve expanded my community, learned new things about myself, and experienced the sense of accomplishment when reaching new goals.
We should embrace and encourage each other to lean into something outside of our 9-5. To understand what lights one another up, gives us life, and drives us to better ourselves. I love when I run into a friend, and the moment I see them, it’s an opportunity to catch up on their latest endeavour.
Tell me more!
Spare no details!
Passion is contagious, and we should feel like we can never get enough of it.
So here I write about my running obsession. Let it be known, it’s not going away anytime soon, and I hope that whatever it is that fires you up only grows bigger and brighter.
Hit the pavement, y’all.
Cheers!
